This article consists of a non-exhaustive review of the proposed changes to the Finnish Lotteries Act (2001/1047), a brief summary of the Finnish case law regarding gambling – specially the court case between Ålands Penningautomatförening (hereinafter “PAF”) and the State of Finland – and official information and news gathered from media and the internet regarding the changes in the Finnish gambling system.
The proposed changes to the Finnish Lotteries Act are aimed at preventing social issues and health problems in a more efficient way and to increase the possibilities for the authorities to intervene in illegal gambling activities. The government proposes that the changes will take effect as soon as possible.
